My purpose as a medical doctor specializing in treating ADD and ADHD is to help relieve patient’s symptoms and to give them an overall sense of well-being and better functioning in the world.  Assessment of ADD and ADHD is a key element in  understanding each patient’s individual symptoms and how they disrupt the patient’s functioning in three main areas of life – work, school and relationships. We work together to increase a sense of mastery in life and help them attain increased self-esteem that comes from their improved ability to function in the world.

I have been in practice for 30 years, specializing in treating Adult ADD and ADHD for 22 years. I have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Anxiety Disorders. I am always focused on treating the whole patient, a holistic approach. I spend a generous hour and a half for the initial evaluation, which all good psychiatrists do. It takes time to really get to know someone, to trace their symptoms back to childhood whether it is depression, anxiety, ADHD or ADD, and to know the current stressors in their life, (jobs, school, relationships). In order to provide the most effective treatment, I explore the patients’ family history in depth and all the medications the person has been on in the past including the side effects and benefits of each. Finally, we need to rule in or rule out other psychiatric or medical diagnoses.

I have an extensive network of excellent Psychotherapists, ADHD Coaches and Learning Disability Specialists that I often refer patients to during the course of treatment.

My practice is centrally located to serve the San Francisco Bay area including Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, LaFayette, Orinda and Alameda.
